I was recently going through my list of bookmarks and I thought I would share some of the free online games that my kids like to play. Truth be told, we sometimes sit down and play the games together.
So here you go…
Fun Brain
Lots of fun stuff here! There are reading and math areas but also games in other subjects to include science history, art and music. There are web books such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Amelia Writes Again and more. Great content, activities for no junk ads, loads quickly & everything seems Mac compatible. There is an easy way to search by grade level and subject on the Parent’s Place page.

Fossweb
Science games and activities for grades K through middle school.
Click on the appropriate grade level and then click on one of the modules.
There will be a game or activity on the top left corner of the screen that applies to that module.
Note: Some of the games required plugins that I didn’t have on my Mac (using Firefox). So either they don’t work on Macs or you’ll have to search for the plugins.

Big Fish Lil’ Fish
We have the actual card Big Fish Lil’ Fish card game but while searching for the instructions online (since I had thrown away our paper copy) I found that there was an online version. This is a great game (recommended for ages 6 and up). It works to help your kids know number values and which number is larger than the other.
One problem with the online version is when you have 30 or so cards in your hand (like you do at the start of the game) the card numeric value is difficult to read. But as your hand gets smaller then the card images are larger and easier on my aging eyes!

Discovery Kids
The Discovery Kids TV channel is designed for kids ages 7 – 14. The website offers a variety of games, some that spin off of the shows. My kids’ favorites are Whizzball (like a mousetrap sort of game) and the Yucky games.

Big Fish Games
Honestly, the same games that cost $19.99 at stores you can play for FREE online (and without ads!). I really like the time management games. The kids like the hidden object games.
In the past we had a game membership and with that membership we were able to buy games for as low as $6.99. The good thing is you can download a trial (or play online) so you can decide if the game is really something you’ll enjoy.
