I recently cleared my internet bookmarks of all of those “make money online” websites.
Truth is, how many gurus, coaches, ebooks and webinars does a person need to attend?
Then I decided to designate some websites as my “Daily Read”.
So here is my list of favorite people/places on the internet.
1. Darren Rowse – Blogging
If I was asked to recommend one blog to other bloggers it would be Darren Rowse’s Problogger.net. Darren is a full time blogger who did what many hope to achieve – he turned his hobby into his profession. He lives in Melbourne Australia (love the accent) and he is a husband and father of two cute little boys. He started blogging in 2002, started Problogger in 2004 and has even written a book on blogging: ProBlogger: Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income.
Darren is currently in the midst of his 31 Days to Build a Better Blog series. Each day there is a post with a task and some teaching. Readers of Problogger can join the other almost 12,000 folks participating in this free project.
Why the recommendation?
There is a plethora of free and useful information at Problogger.net. Darren shares his story, lessons he’s learned and gives honest advice. He also had commented on one of my blogs after I had posted a photo of myself wearing one of his Problogger shirts. A person willing to take the time to recognize a nobody like me is the type of person I want to learn from.

2. Lynn Terry – Internet Marketing
My recommendation for an internet marketer or affiliate marketer to learn from would be Lynn Terry. Lynn has been working online successfully since 1997. Yeah, there aren’t many “gurus” who can make that claim. Like Darren, Lynn is willing to share information openly and freely. She blogs about Starting a free online business. She breaks it down step-by-step. In addition to blog posts she also has a Forum and Webinars which are both free to participate in.
Why the recommendation?
Lynn is real and honest. She’s honest about the hours she has put in. She’ll tell you that her way may not be the best way but it’s what works for her. Lynn doesn’t push every money making system out there just to make affiliate sales. In fact, she takes care of people who do purchase through her affiliate links as with the 2008 StomperNet Fiasco.
Participate in at least one of Lynn’s Free Webinars and you’ll quickly understand why I listen to her!

3. Leo Babauta – Productivity
I am not looking for a four-hour workweek. I don’t care to micromanage every aspect of my life. But I do make efforts to simplify things and appreciate more of what I have. My favorite website for inspiration, motivation and every day reading is Leo Babauta’s Zen Habits.
I have to admit, the fact that Leo is also from Guam does add to his appeal!
Why the recommendation?
Leo doesn’t claim to be an expert, guru or coach on any of the subjects he writes about. That’s a huge part of the reason he’s so trusting. His only claim is that he is a “regular guy”. He writes about what he’s learned from his accomplishments and failures. He gives advice on simple methods that we can follow.
I love the last paragraph of his story, “It is a journey, with no destination, that we are on, my friends. Join me. Together, we’ll accomplish a lot and have fun along the way.”

4. Anissa Mayhew – Laughing, Appreciating, Mothering
One night I came across Anissa’s blog Hope 4 Peyton where she writes about life and her youngest daughter, Peyton’s diagnosis of Leukemia. When I read Anissa’s blog I fell in love with her. I know guys have “bromances” so I’ve got the girl version of whatever that is (without being lesbian).
Anissa has a wicked sense of humor, love that runs deeply, honesty to all hell (does that even make sense?) and she tweets about things like bewbs and vodka.
Why the recommendation?
Read this post on Anissa’s blog A Letter of Apology to My Kids. If after reading that you still wonder why I would recommend Anissa then don’t ask. I’ll officially label you a dumbass and leave it at that!

5. Craftastrophe
I do have a fear that one day one of my crafty items might end up on this website. I’ve had my fair share of crafting catastrophes starting from my 1st grade clay lion that somehow looks like, well, just a pile of clay to my recent attempt at knitting a scarf which quickly turned into well, just a ball of knotted up yarn and a choker for an anorexic.
Honestly, I consider myself crafty and a look at my overflowing “hobby” area would be proof of that. But sometimes I laugh at the things I create. Likewise, I enjoy laughing at the things other people make.
Why the recommendation?
The tagline says it all: because handmade isn’t always pretty!
